Morgan Larson after the fleet races

Journalist: Congratulations. Two wins in two fleet races.

Morgan Larson: Thank you. It was a great day for us and I think this goes to show that the guys, although we have been here for two weeks working hard, haven’t got tired and only getting better every day. Hopefully, we can now meet the challenge ahead for tomorrow.

Journalist: Exactly. You can now go to tomorrow’s semifinal with probably a very nice attitude, a different spirit.

Morgan Larson: It’s always nice to come off a win. We all know that today was a little bit about the other people and the sponsors and it was a fun day. The guys had a great day and it shows that when you are having fun you can sail well. That’s what it was about for us.

Journalist: What was the key point today? Was it good tactics?

Morgan Larson: Thank you! Today, with this light air, it was all about the start but like any other race it’s also a combination of almost everything. Gavin got exactly what we wanted from the starts, we had good plans, the speed was obviously good enough and the guy did a nice job putting the sails up and down. All those little things made for a good day.

Journalist: While we were talking to Paul Cayard he told us that when he was sailing with “Il Moro di Venezia”, they won the very first fleet race of this class of boats in 1992. Now, another Italian boats wins the very last fleet race of the same class.

Morgan Larson: I’m trying to think whether I was alive in 1992. Raul Gardini was a great hero for the sport and for me, growing up in San Francisco, seeing Paul Cayard with Raul Gardini was a great thing as a child. I think he got a big impression on a lot of people, especially a lot of the Italian sailors. It’s very nice for Vincenzo to, sort of, turn the lights off.
