The RC44 Valencia Cup came to a close today, after a spectacular but testing week of racing on the one-design yachts designed by four-time America’s Cup winner Russell Coutts.

It has been a testing week for Mascalzone Latino Audi Team, starting on Tuesday with the first two days of match racing and ending today, after ten fleet races.

The absence for more than a year from the race courses of this one-design class was noted. Mascalzone Latino decided for its comeback the most physical and technical class currently available and right from the onset it was obvious that in order to get back to the top there was a lot of things to work on.

After the end of racing today, a smiling Vincenzo Onorato, stated: “We can only get better! There is a lot of work to do”.

The RC 44 Valencia Cup was won by Team Aqua of Chris Bake from Canada with New Zealander Cameron Appleton calling tactics, followed by Torbjorn Tonrnqvist’s Artemis with Terry Hutchinson while the podium was closed by “17”, skippered by James Spithill, helsman of BMW Oracle Racing’s trimaran in the 33rd America's Cup.

Mascalzone Latino Audi Team finished the regatta in eleventh place overall.

The next event of the RC44 Class and Mascalzone Latino Audi Team will be the first ever World Championship and will take place in Puerto Calero, Canary Islands, from October 11th to 16th.
